Armbar, Kimura and Triangle Choke Escapes

I was ringside at Metamoris in San Diego last year when Marcus ‘Buchecha’ Almeida locked the armbar onto Roger Gracie, and it was deep! The entire crowd gasped, then went absolutely insane!!

Roger Gracie is one of the very best jiu-jitsu players in the whole world. It looked like we were about to witness a HUGE upset…

But Roger stayed composed, and in an enormous display of heart and technique m managed to work his way out of the seemingly inescapable armbar.

The auditorium was filled with BJJ enthusiasts that night. I think we all came away filled with awe for Buchecha’s technical abilities, admiration for Roger’s tenacity, and a renewed respect for the importance of escape techniques.

Techniques to get out of submissions are super-important in BJJ. If you train then you ARE going to get caught in submissions, but if you know the counter then you don’t always have to tap out…

Here are three excerpts from my Submission Defense iPhone app (Android version coming soon) that’ll teach you some of the best escapes to use against the armbar from guard, the triangle choke from guard, and the Kimura from sidemount.

I use these escapes all the time, so I know they work. Check them out and see what you think:
