March 14th, 2011
March 5th marked our 3 year anniversary. It has been an amazing journey traveling moving from my home country of Brazil to my new home here in America! The people of Texas made this transition very natural and made it easy to call this new place my home. When we picked the first location, we underestimated Houstons desire for Jiu-Jitsu. We picked a spot with the goal of having 100 students after the first year….well, we were blessed to have 100 students the first MONTH!
I was so excited to see some many enthusiastic people desiring Jiu-Jitsu and I was eager to teach. The people of Texas have a long history and a strong warrior spirit, this has been evident in their competition. Even though we were the youngest school in the area, over the past three years we have been open we have joined forces with the rest of the Gracie Barra’s in Texas and dominated every single major tournament we have entered.
I have been very proud of my schools and I’m excited to embark on this journey as my students compete and progress towards their black belts. All it takes is the desire, dedication and the discipline to get on the mats and you will reach your goal. There is no magic in Jiu-Jitsu, you just need the mat time and proper instruction. Thank you everybody, I couldn’t be prouder of each and everyone of you as we travel into this new year. We have big plans for our future and some of them are in the works right now. See you on the mats, your biggest fan….
