Open Guard vs Standing Opponent – Tampa BJJ

Tampa BJJ black belt and UFC veteran Matt Arroyo shows a variety of sweeps against a standing opponent.  Matt alternates from Single leg X, De La Riva, X-Guard and open guard strategies depending upon the actions of the opponent.  The nice things about these sweeps is that they are lead easily into passing, leading the guard player not just to the top position, but with a clear route to a dominant side control. A strong open guard is especially important against a larger opponent who may dominate the takedown game.  These sweeps give the smaller BJJ artist a fighting chance.

Techniques were filmed at Tampa Gracie South, a Tampa Brazilian Jiu-jitsu school.  For more information on this Tampa BJJ academy visit their website at http://www.graciesouthtampa.com
