Brazilian website Tatame.com broke news late Monday that, after remarks regarding his match with Antonio Silva, Alistair Overeem has been removed from the Strikeforce 2011 Heavyweight Grand Prix.
In a recent interview Overeem stated that he felt September was too soon for him to return. He felt he needed more time to heal from his last fight in mid June. Zuffa apparently disagreed with the Dutchman and quickly removed him from the tournament, and replaced him with standout Daniel Cormier on Monday.
Cormier holds an 8-0 record, 3-0 in Strikeforce coming into this bout with Silva, who is on a 3 fight win streak, including his incredible doctor stoppage win over former Pride king Fedor Emelianenko.
