Review of Combat Skin Warrior Gear (Spats / Rashie)
Ladies and Gentleman, today it is my pleasure to bring to you a review of a company that I have absolutely fallen in love with. I can honestly say that of all the products I have reviewed from such a wide range of companies, this is the crème de la crème. Few other companies come anywhere close to these products, so without further ado begins my in depth review of Combat Skin’s Warrior Spats and Rash Guard.
Combat Skin is a very new company specializing in gear for practitioners of combat sports and martial arts, with a focus on Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Submission Grappling. They are so new in-fact that the Warrior Rash Guard and Spat combo is their first foray into the industry, and I must say that it is extremely impressive and is obviously a sign of a bright future in the field!
- Creating the best designs and fight wear for combat arts/sports.
- Providing a high quality service that leads to exceptional customer satisfaction.
- Using designers and artists that train.
- Supporting practitioners by giving back to the community (e.g. sponsorships).
As of the date of this review, I can say that they are already accomplishing these tough goals, and will be doing so for as long as they remain in business. The Warrior Rash Guard and Spat combo already meet the first three points on this list as they are designed by the world renowned Meerkatsu and are made of the highest quality material as seen below.
The Warrior Rash Guard is in a class of its own when it comes to quality and design. As previously mentioned, this combo was designed by the famous Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Submission Grappling fight wear designer Meerkatsu. The design does have a bit of a story behind it:
Pictured on the Rash Guard is a mythical creature of ancient Chinese origins called the Qillin. The Qillin is a benevolent and magical creature that transforms into a fearsome and powerful creature when Good is threatened by Evil. This creature has the head of a Dragon, body of a lion, scales of a koi fish, tail of a bull, and hooves of a horse.
This magical creature is done justice by the quality of product that it is sublimated upon. The Rash Guard itself is made up of 80% polyester material and 20% Spandex; the design is fully sublimated onto the Rash Guard to prevent any wear and tear that may accumulate over the course of a life time of training. Along with this, the Rash Guard is flat stitched to allow for maximum comfort, as well as durability. Thus allowing for a lack of seams on the under arm, and for sublimated tag which also allows for an increased level of comfort!
I can honestly say while wearing this Rash Guard, I could not feel a thing! It’s like grappling shirt less, but without the risk of infection, and those weird looks that people will shoot your way.
The Spats, much like the Rash Guard features the Qilin down the leg; so these two products are best worn as a set. Also like the Rash Guard, these Spats offer some great features and are made of the same high quality material. As previously mentioned, the Spats are made up 80% Polyester, and 20% Spandex thus allowing for optimum comfort and durability. The waist band is a four stitch waistband which features a draw string that helps keep the product around your waist rather than around your ankles during training! Along with these features, the Warrior Spats offer a unique four stitch lining around the ankles to help prevent them from riding up, and to help keep the Spats in place. Much like the Rash Guard, the Warrior Spats are equipped with reinforced flatlock stitching to for maximum comfort, and the material allows for a breathable feeling on the legs, akin to grappling in Vale Tudo Shorts.
My experience with grappling in this gear was a mixture of pure ecstasy as well as receiving a barrage of jealous inquiries on where to attain such amazing gear. As I had mentioned about the Rash Guard, the Spats not only make it feel like you are grappling with very little clothing, they also allow for an extra slipperiness that assists in slipping in the occasional Triangle Choke!
My experience with washing the Warrior gear was also one of ease and excellence. If washed exactly as instructed (Machine wash cold, hang dry, and no ironing or dry cleaning) there will be no shrinkage, as well as the designs will remain intact and unhindered.
Pros and Cons
- Feels great on the skin.
- Great unique features.
- Solid material.
- Fully sublimated graphics.
- Drawstring and four stitch waist band.
- Great design from a world class artist (Meerkatsu).
- The company offers a fantastic sponsorship program.
I wish more companies were like Combat Skin, though they may be young, they bring professionalism and quality that companies with 10 times their experience cannot offer. Along with this they bring forth a great first product that rivals many of the top brands in the marketplace! This combined with the amazing artwork and back story of the Chinese mythological creature, the Qilin, leads me to believe that the Combat Skin brand will be around for many years to come. If all companies put as much work as Combat Skin does into their products, my job would be a whole lot easier; and not to mention the marketplace would be filled with amazing products! As I mentioned earlier, Combat Skin is beginning to roll out a sponsorship program that is targeted at not only competitors, but upstanding members of the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Submission Grappling community. So if you or someone you know is deserving of a sponsorship be sure to contact Combat Skin through their website (http://combatskin.com/)!
So I leave you with this final note, if you wish to acquire a product that is not only of the highest quality, but comes from a company that also gives back to the martial arts community; I wish to give you my highest recommendation on the Combat Skin Warrior Rash Guard and Spat combo. I cannot find something I dislike about this product, and therefore must give it a grade of an A. So do yourself a favor, and get yourself some Combat Skin gear!
