So it turns out, that Miguels Rape joke, is actually a joke that comes from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,  Season 4, Episode 2. Ironically (or maybe I should say hypocritically) the show is an extremely successful show on FX ( a company parented by FOX). So FOX, who just signed a huge seven year deal with the UFC is fine with rape jokes on TV programs, but apparently Dana White is unforgiving of fighters quoting shows from the network they are now apart of. The joke seems pretty tasteless either way…but quoting a tv show hardly seems worthy of being fired.

(Clip of the crew on “Its always sunny in Philadelphia” joking about rape van, and saying they “are going to go rape some women” because “If not, it would be a waste of a good rape van”.

Miguel Torres apologizes with this tweet…

“I have a lot to be thankful for in my life, I have my beautiful wife and daughter, my family, my health, my gym, and in terms of my career, I succeeded to the biggest stage in the sport of mixed martial arts, the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

“I am very sorry for upsetting my bosses at the UFC, and also to my fans and everyone else who was upset by the language in my tweets.  I understand it was wrong, and I meant no harm or disrespect.  Given the chance, I will do whatever it takes to make things right. I am going to learn from this.

“I think life throws you opportunities that can make you a better person, and so that’s what I’m going to do here. That is how I am going to react. I am going to use this to improve myself, and I hope that my fans will continue to support me.”

As dumb as it was to say something like that in the public eye, if this was a court case…based on the fact that he was quoting a line from a TV show that the UFC is now apart of…he definitely shouldn’t of got the death penalty that Dana White gave him. Public apology, explanation he was quoting a popular TV program and maybe even a fine…sure..fired? I’m having trouble getting behind that. Especially when Rashad Evans was forgiven for saying..

“You’re going to have to find out for yourself. I bet you won’t be able to put your hands on me, though. I bet you’ll be the first one to take a shot. I guarantee you’ll be the first one to take a shot, ‘cause I’m going to put those hands on you worse than that dude did to them other kids at Penn State.”

(He made this statement in reference to Jerry Sandusky who is an alleged pedophile and former assistant coach at the school his opponent was from) …and he didn’t even have a good excuse. His excuse was literally that he was trying to get under his skin and make fun of his school.

According to Dana White, Evans’s explanation was that it was

“in the heat of the moment”

and that

Evans was trying to get under the skin of Phil Davis by knocking Davis and his school at the same time.

..AHHHHH ok, why didn’t you say so Evans..”You were just trying to be really mean and hurtful and verbally attack your opponent”…All is forgiven…its not like you were quoting a T.V. Show. THAT would be unforgivable. *Rolls Eyes* I’m inclined to believe that Evans ticket sales has more to do with it than anything.

Dana White cussing and calling guys “pussies” and “Faggots” and then a women a “cunt” publicly. Weird for a guy saying he doesn’t allow fighters to say offensive things publicly.

What do you guys think? Dana White being hypocritical?

  1. I agree with the pool. You can never have inconsistency….I agree that the fighters have the duty of being role models and give good examples since they are public figures and they are idols for children. So a warning and official apologize is ok, like it was for Rashad and Griffin. but expelling…..I don’t know.

    • Yeah, thats what I was thinking. It just seems a little too harsh and inconsistent.
